EMERGENCY UPDATE WITH SENATOR AL FRANKEN

The clock is ticking on deficit reduction proposals!
Congress’ Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction is charged with making recommendations by November 23. It is possible to design a plan that protects low- and moderate-income people and helps to create jobs, while seeking fair revenues and savings from waste in the military and elsewhere. Powerful interests don’t want increased revenues from individuals and corporations at the top. But if they do not pay their share, the burden will be borne by those already struggling. That is wrong both for vulnerable people and for our nation’s economic future.
We are fortunate to welcome Senator Al Franken (D-MN), who will remind us why these decisions are so important and why advocates should speak out.
CHN’s Executive Director Deborah Weinstein will describe what’s known about Republican and Democratic deficit reduction plans and will share information about weighing in with Congress.
