Some states (California) have banned toys in children’s meals unless the food meets certain standards including reduced salt, sugar and fat, and green veggies and fruit. McDonalds is taking a tentative step forward with their Happy Meal by reducing both the total calorie count and the fat calories. Sliced apples are replacing a portion of the French fries, and a toy will be included, to entice purchase.
Some fast food restaurants have eliminated the toy and made the meal more nutritious. These actions have been taken as a result of consumer pressure from parents and the National Restaurant Association.
