Ed Committee Responsive to New MCAS Reform
On May 10th I testified on behalf of Promise the Children at the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Education hearing on MCAS Reform. I was delighted at of number of committee members in attendance and their thoughtful questions. (If you have attended State House hearings, you know, it isn’t always so).
I was welcomed on a panel put together by Citizens for Public Schools to testify in support of House Bill No. H01955 An Act to Improve Assessment and Accountability to Ensure Students Acquire 21st Skills. Promise_the_Children_MCAS_testimony.pdf
There were a lot of experts there who talked about the impact of using tests like the MCAS as a requirement for graduation, especially for children with disabilities. Promise the Children’s testimony was unique because it is a thoughtful statement that reflects what many parents, teachers, and teens at UU churches have told us and what we have learned from our research of No Child Left Behind reform efforts.
If you would like to express your concerns about the need for the MCAS to be used as only one assessment tool this would be a good time to call or write to Educational Committee Chair:
