President Obama Proposes Test Reform

President Obama spoke on Monday, March 28th at a town hall hosted by the Univision Spanish-language television network at Bell Multicultural High School in Washington, D.C. as reported by Huffpost.

President Barack Obama said that students should take fewer standardized tests and school performance should be measured in other ways than just exam results.

The President added that too much testing makes education boring for kids, and that young people do well when they’re interested , and poorly, if it’s boring.

In this Huffpost Education article the President added that he does not want schools just teaching the test because then you’re not learning about the world, or different cultures, or about science, or math. All you’re learning about is how to fill in a little bubble on an exam, and the little tricks that you need to take a test, and that’s not interesting.

The Obama administration has proposed replacing standardized testing with a less prescriptive requirement, and that by 2020 all students graduating from high school should be ready for college or a career

Do you support reform of standardized tests in this country’s schools?
