VIDEO : Let’s Talk About The Farm Bill
On Sunday, January 29th, Executive Director, Ellen Parker, was featured speaker at the Museum of Science as part of their ongoing series “Let’s Talk About Food.” The event is focused on the 2012 Farm Bill and its impact on New England.
Ellen provided Project Bread’s perspective on how the Farm Bill affects what’s on a child’s lunch plate, highlighting our Chefs in Schools program. Annette Higby, executive director of the New England Farmers Union, and Professor Timothy Griffin of Tufts University, also spoke, providing local perspectives on agribusiness as well as the environment and sustainability.

Sequestration – Will It Happen?

The Budget Control Act of 2011 (BCA, PL 112-025) that was passed last August calls for
significant deficit reduction. The first installment of nearly $1 trillion in cuts went into effect
immediately and is achieved through binding 10-year limits on annual appropriations bills. The
second round of savings should add up to $1.2 trillion over ten years. The legislation set up a
fast track for passing a deficit reduction plan that could have combined spending cuts with
revenue increases.

Video: Did the Stimulus Work?

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, better known as the stimulus, turns 3 this week. Did it work? Michael Linden, Director of Tax and Budget Policy at the Center for American Progress, answers that question in a new video by looking at three broad but important indicators for the American economy. All three were in bad shape before the stimulus began, and all three turned around at almost exactly the moment the stimulus started. Coincidence?
