Youth: Skill-Building Opportunities
Advocacy and Legislative Training
Legislative Action Day (LAD)
Did you ever want to be trained in the fine skills of lobbying? If you live in or around Boston, a Tuesday in April can be your opportunity to come to an all day workshop and learn to use your voice. Go to our homepage and check out the events link for more information. If you live afar, you can download the workshop guide for your youth leader and introduce the program into your own community!
Sexuality Education Advocacy Training (SEAT)
Sexuality Education Advocacy Training is an annual collaboration between the Unitarian Universalist Association, the United Church of Christ, Advocates for Youth, Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, and the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. SEAT teaches youth, young adults and adult allies how to be effective advocates for comprehensive sexuality education through workshops on community organizing, advocacy, and anti-racism/anti-oppression. The four day training is a great way to become more involved in advocacy and to lobby on Capitol Hill.
Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom (SYRF)
Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom educates, organizes and empowers youth and young adults (ages 16-30) to put their faith into action and advocate for pro-choice social justice. They also offer many opportunities (including grant funds!) for youth advocates across the Nation.
Federal Internships
The U.S. Department of State offers internships for students of all levels, including opportunities for high school students, undergraduate students, and graduate and post-graduate students.
Political Opportunities
We suggest contacting by email to inquire about opportunities within the two major political parties. Both the Democratic party and the Republican party have intern programs.
